Progess bar for a fileupload in an iFrame

hi,

I have put a file upload control in an iFrame so that I can mimic an asynch. postback. This works well, but now I would like to be able to detect when the button in the iFrame that submits the form in the iframe is clicked, so that i can trigger a "processing" message in the main page, which isn't posting back.

Any ideas on how I might accomplish this? (or if anyone has a better way to do an asynchrounous fileupload I'm very open to suggestions :-)

Hmm... I would be very interested in the direction you are headed.

Couldn't you do something with the onclientclick of the submit button in the iframe? So when that submit button is clicked in the iframe, a javascript is fired in the parent/main page that shows a "processing" message.

I am trying to do the exact same thing, would you have any example code?

thanks..

Progress Bar

Hello,

I need to upload some files and display an Ajax progress bar.

Does anyone knows how to do this?

Thanks,

Miguel

Hi,

I also did research for file uploaders. This what we end up using http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/FlashUpload.asp.

This is flash + asp.net. However it's more reliable than all other solutions.

I can't use Flash in this project. Sad

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,

Miguel

If you have a budget then I think some of the Telerik or ComponentArt or Infragistics controls have what you need.

I created my own based off this: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webforms/File_Upload_Progress_Bar.aspx. I haven't had a chance to test it under a heavy load yet, but it seemed to work fine in my initial testing.

Progress/ Upload / Activity Indicator - UpdateProgress Missing?

Hello all,

I am completely new to this forum altogether and hope that someone can help me out as I am trying to get into the Atlas/AJAX world. I am inexperienced in using the tools so far, however I have followed the instructions by installing the latest extensions and then the CTP in the hopes of getting an UpdateProgress control that I could use on my users site.

I am using a page that implements a fileupload control so that a user may upload pictures to out site. When the user triggers the upload of the picture I was hoping to have an UploadProgress show a simple animated gif until the process was complete. My issue is that I cannot seem to find any reference to the UpdateProgress control using this version of AJAX. Has this control been eliminated in the current version, or should I be looking for another method to implement what I am trying to accomplish?

Please, any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Hello

The UpdateProgress control is under development and will be placed in the first Release Candidate of AJAX.
However, you can still use the new one if you first install the normal version of AJAX (the one you already have normally) and secondly the CTP version of AJAX (which is under development)

This will create another template into your visual studio AJAX CTP enabled Website, which makes the link between a specific dll (Microsoft.Web.Preview.dll) and the controls (like UpdateProgress).

You can also add the links manually into your existing web.config:

The first 2 lines are for the "normal" AJAX functionally (like UpdatePanel etc). You only have to add lines 3 and 4 to your web.config. Afterwards you have to copy the dll Microsoft.Web.Preview.dll to your bin directory of your web application, and tada, there's your UpdateProgress control again! :-)

sweetCoffee,

Thanks so much for the reply! :) I am still a little confused as to which versions I should be installing. I uninstalled everything to start from scratch, then, found the April Atlas release and installed it, just to get the UpdateProgress working. It did. (Whoohoo!) I am still, however more interested in getting the latest release as you suggest, so I am assuming that I do the following:

1) Uninstall the April CTP

2) Reinstall the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX v1.0 Beta

3) Reinstall the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX CTP

4) Reinstall the AJAX Control Toolkit

Is this correct? Sorry to be sure a pain, but I have a short time in which to ramp up the ol’ knowledge base. As usual! ;)

Again, thank you.

Well, that procress seemed to work beautifully! Thank you again. Now on to more and more frustration ;)...but thats the fun stuff!

that was correct indeed :-)

have fun ! I'm also very frustrated now they have changed a lot of things.... it's for our good, but it needs a little adaption :-)

publish ajax website

Hi,

I am beginner with Ajax and I have done an app using some update panels and triggers but before I upload the app to the server I wanted to know if I have to do something on the server so the app will run without any problem.

1. I am not using any ajax control, only updates panel.

2. Do have to configure something?

3. Can I just publish the site and then upload it?

Can any body explain me something about it or maybe give me an URL where i can found some info.

Thanks a lot.

Just install the asp.net ajax framework on you server then you're good to go.

Thanks for your answer.

But it is a remote server so I do not think I have permissions to install the ajax framework. Or I have to tell my provider that I want that framework?

Thanks again.

hmmm hosting provider? Ask them, ... to do install it ... if they don't then transfer somewhere else. .. i'm with GoDaddy, and they have it ... the price is cheap too. if you do go with GoDaddy, check around for promotion code. i have one ... let me know if you need it ... Cheer.

I just talked to my provider and they do not have the ajax framework and the person that I working for does not want to change the provider. I know, I had to ask this person about this before I started....... there′s no way to run an app which has ajax without the Ajax Framework? I am just using update panels and triggers and no ajax controls.

Thanks a lot.

You can try putting the DLLs in the bin folder like the old "Atlas", but then your folder has to have full permission. AND for sure your provider will not give it to you.

i did try putting all the DLLs in the bin folder on my hosting provider (godaddy) when they didn't have ajax install. the result was, it blows up on me. yellow page. 'sigh' ...

who is your provider?

my provider is 1&1......why do I need full permission to put some dll in my projects?

Look I have all the Data access and the business logic in different projects. That means that in the client side I use the dll from those projects.

Do I need also full permissions to use these dll's in my project?

Or do I have to upload those project to server too?

Tanks a lot.
